5 Ways to Make a Brighter Winter Home

Winter can be tough time to keep your home feeling bright and upbeat. The cold temps, the early sunset and just the seasonal boredom can sap your ambition to do any home projects.

But, we’ve come up with some ways to brighten up that winter home while you wait for spring.

    1. Take the Screens Off of Your Windows!

As long as you don’t plan to open your windows in the winter, this is a great way to allow more natural light into your room, while also possibly reducing your heating cost as more sunlight streams in. And who wouldn’t be happy about that? Just be sure you store your screens somewhere like a garage or basement where they won’t get torn or broken. Then put them back on your windows as it starts to warm up outside.

    1. Keep Your Décor Light

In the winter, we tend to navigate towards dark colors, but opting for bedding, pillows, throws and even dishes that are white or pale colored will bring some of that lighter feeling into your home. Maybe your walls could even use a light new paint coat to make your house feel crisp and happy.

    1. Replace Yellow Bulbs with White LEDs

Instead of having to squint from the yellow indoor light, transition your light fixtures to white LED bulbs. And make sure all your bulbs are working and they all match. It will help your space to feel orderly and you’ll feel a bit happier!

    1. Clean Your Windows

Nothing says dull like looking outside through dusty, fingerprinted windows. Wipe them down with a mixture of water and vinegar and vacuum out the windowsills to remove dirt and bugs. Everything will feel fresher and cleaner in your home after this activity!

    1. Add Some Indoor Plants

Even if you have a black thumb, there are tropical and succulent plants that will thrive indoors with very little light or water. The fresh greenery will induce spring thinking, which always brightens moods. There are tons of online resources for purchasing the right plant for your space. And if you ask around, you probably have a friend who is willing to share one of their indoor plants with you! And who knows, you might just find a new hobby in house plants.
